Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Agronomic Engineering, at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Technical University of Lisbon, in 2001, with a thesis about  pest control in organic agriculture, namely biological control of Frankliniella occidentalis with Orius laevigatus.
 
Academic component within Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in Integrated Pest Management, at Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Technical University of Lisbon, in 1991/2.
 
Degree in Agronomic Engineering (5 years course), with specialization in Rural Extension, at University of Evora, in 1986.
 Main Training and Courses Attended  

Training at the Ecological Agriculture and Entomology Departments at the Wageningen Agricultural University, in Holland, having carried out a laboratory research on biological control of Frankliniella occidentalis with Orius laevigatus and Orius albidipennis, in strawberry, from 5th November 1991 to 28th February 1992.
 
Training at the Rural Extension Department at the Gandhigram Rural University, in Madurai, India, having participated in rural extension in local villages, in 1983.
 
Training at two Kibbutzim – Ashdot Ya’aqov Meouhad and Netiv Halamed Hé – in Israel, as collaborator, in 1982.
 
Attendance, during the first years, on Agronomy Courses at Faculté des Sciences Agronomiques de l’Etat/Gembloux and Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, in Belgium, during academic year 1979/80.

President of Administration Board at “Beijing Biosani Co. Ltd.”, based in Beijing, China, property of the Portuguese company BIOSANI, since 1995.
 
President of “BIOSANI – Agricultura Biológica e Protecção Integrada, Lda.”., established in 1994; BIOSANI is a company specialised in products and services for pest control following the organic farming standards.
 
Scholar for the Science and Technology Foundation between 1991 and 1996, inicially for Masters in Integrated Pest Management, at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Technical University of Lisbon, having transferred to Doctorate at the same Institute in 1992.
 
Services rendered to Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, as author of and responsible for a project introducing the rice culture in organic agriculture, in 1990.
 
Responsible for setting up a data base on organic agriculture at AGROBIO – Portuguese Organic Agriculture Association, realisable due to a protocol established between this association, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment Secretary of State, in 1989 and 1990.
 
Editor and director of Villages magazine, a publication about rural Europe, published by “VILLAGES – Publicações, Lda.” of which he was president, edited in English and Portuguese, with collaborators and distribution all over the European Union, from 1986 to 1988.
